Founded in 1994 RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) is the nation’s largest anti-sexual violence organization and a leader in the field of sexual assault response and prevention. From creating and operating the National Sexual Assault Hotline, which helps over 300,000 people in need each year, to working with law makers across the country to prevent sexual violence and ensure survivors have the resources they need to heal, RAINN takes a wholistic approach to addressing issues around sexual violence.
The National Sexual Assault Hotline provides information and support over call and online chat 24/7, connecting survivors of sexual violence to the resources they need and to local sexual assault service providers. This dedicated hotline provides sexual violence survivors across the country with a centralized place where they can turn for immediate, anonymous, confidential, and expert support, assistance, and resources in both English and Spanish. RAINN helps approximately 900 people each day through the National Sexual Assault Hotline which can be reached through RAINN’s website: www.rainn.org or www.rainn.org/es, mobile app (available through iTunes or Google Play), or by calling (800) 656-4673.
Another of RAINN’s missions focuses on effecting pro-survivor policy change in federal and state governments across the United States. This includes organizing and leading national campaigns to educate the public about the backlog of unanalyzed DNA profiles in sexual assault investigations; advocating for standardized trauma-informed training for law enforcement; and urging the extension of statutes of limitations for sexual assault so that more survivors have an opportunity to report these crimes and attain justice. This work is critical to changing the public narrative about sexual violence and ensuring survivors get the respect and validation they deserve.
RAINN strives to develop new and innovative ways to help survivors of sexual violence and to prevent sexual violence from occurring. To learn more about RAINN and how you can get involved, visit www.rainn.org.
