Introducing Browsing For Change

I am excited to announce the launch of Browsing For Change, a platform that makes it easy to make donations to effectively run charities at no cost to you. Many of us would like to be the type of person who donates to charity but struggle to identify which organizations to donate to. How do you make that decision? For some of us, we may be plugged into our local communities and aware of the good work that these organizations are doing. But what about the rest of us? How do you know that the charity you are giving to is using your money effectively and running programs in the areas you care about most? Some of us may be stuck trying to answer this question and might even allow it to prevent us from donating the money that we had set aside for that very purpose. Browsing For Change provides an answer to that question and provides a pain free way to put your internet usage to positive social good at no expense to you.

How It Works

After you install the browser extension new tabs will open the lastest post on this blog, where we will serve helpful content around charities, charity projects, and personal finance; we will also run advertisements on the blog. The ad revenue generated from the platform will be used to run Browsing For Change, with all remaining funds being donated to charities of your choosing, weighted by your participation. The charities are provided in the style of index funds and selections can be make inside the web application. Browsing For Change vows to never exceed keeping more than 50% of revenue for operational expenses. This number is higher than we would desire and is largely due to the fact that this is a self funded project, with all expenses coming out of our own pockets. As this project grows, the percentage of revenue that is donated will likely grow higher and higher over time.

Partner Charities

We curate our charities by researching on third party services like Charity Watch, Charity Navigator, and Give Well.

We hope to soon provide a larger list of charities from which you can create your own categories, giving you even more control of where your contributions go. Our list of categories and charities as they stand today are listed below.

Human and Civil Rights

Environment

Hunger and Food Policy

Education and Literacy

Features

  • Chrome Extension : Our chrome extension takes over the new tab behavior of your browser and serves our content (with ads)
  • App: donation selections can be made within the app
  • Blog: written content focused on charities and personal finance
